As i said earlier, the purpose of Iphone is "Stay Connnected". Stay Connected also means you should be able to talk to your buddies just like you do a 'Skype Talk' or a 'Google Talk' or 'MSN Talk'.
Also wouldn't be it sweet, if you can have all your social networking buddies under one list. (irrespective of them being in Yahoo or AOL or Google).
So two important qs's : One SIMPLE answer - fring.
Fring is s a mobile internet community and communication service that allows friends to connect, share experiences and enhance their online communities together. Enough of definition...
Fring is availble for free in App Store and it gives you the ability to make free voice calls (just like your laptop) on Google, Skype, MSN...Also you can do Yahoo Chat, ICQ Chat, Twitter Chat and AIM chat. Go to More -->Add-Ons and enter the login details (just once) for each of the social network.It also gives you the ability to list all the buddies under one list.
The only glitch (becuase of AT&T) is that you need Wi-Fi to make voice calls. For Chats, 3G is more than enough. And you get fring notifications, when somebody pings/calls you. This can be enabled/disabled in Settings --> fring (You will see fring, once u install fring)
And the latest update of fring also gives the option to "Go Offline", if you do want to be online always. Go to fring-->More --> Go Offline and then click 'Offline'. You are offline now. To go back to Online, just open fring and once u open Fring, you automatically go Online and you can always "Stay Connected".
